Blazing Double Bass

Introduction

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to my blog. The title should be pretty self-explanatory. This blog is all about blazing fast double bass.

If you don’t know what double bass is, let me explain. This refers to having two bass drums in a drum set, or at least having the ability to play the bass drum with both feet (more on this later).

If you listen to any kind of heavy metal or hard rock, there is no doubt you have heard double bass before. But we aren’t just concerned with listening to double bass - we are actually going to be playing double bass!

Playing double bass?

This blog is going to detail my journey from a mediocre double bass player, into a blazing fast speed demon. Starting at single stroke 16th note rolls at around 160 bpm (beats per minute for you non musicians), I will explain in detail the work and practice necessary to get up to 220 bpm.

This isn’t some gimmick challenge - I really am only a mediocre double bass player, and I am striving to become a much better one. This blog will explain step by step how to reach that goal.

A little something extra

Along the way, I will also post some interviews with some famous double bass players, and see if they can offer any insight and tips for us. Look for contests and a video of the day for you readers as well.
